SPF, which means Sender Policy Framework, is an email security system, that is used to validate whether an email message was sent by an official server. Using SPF protection for a particular domain will prevent the faking of email addresses generated with the domain. In simple words: enabling this function for a domain generates a special record in the Domain Name System (DNS) containing the IP of the servers which are permitted to send e-mail messages from mail boxes under the domain. As soon as this record propagates globally, it will exist on all the DNS servers that route the Internet traffic. Every time some email message is sent, the first DNS server it uses checks whether it originates from an authorized server. If it does, it's sent to the destination address, yet when it does not originate from a server part of the SPF record for the particular domain, it's discarded. In this way nobody can mask an e-mail address then make it look as if you're distributing spam. This technique is also referred to as email spoofing.
SPF Protection in Hosting
SPF protection can be enabled for every domain hosted in a hosting account on our cloud hosting platform with no more than a couple of mouse-clicks. The option can be found in the Emails section of our exceptional Hepsia Control Panel and what is needed to use it is to pick one of your domains from a drop-down list and type in the hostnames together with the IPv4 or IPv6 addresses of the e-mail servers that will be certified to send emails from your email addresses. As an added option you may also restrict the e-mails to be sent from your domain only when it includes our MX records, i.e. if our servers manage the e-mail addresses for it, not a third-party provider. This feature gives you the highest standard of protection, but it's not applicable when only your web site is on our servers while the email addresses for the domain name are taken care of somewhere else. Either way, our SPF protection service will keep your email addresses risk-free from being used for spam or scam purposes.
SPF Protection in Semi-dedicated Servers
When you host your domains in a semi-dedicated server account from our company, you will be able to benefit from the SPF protection feature as a part of the regular set of services that you will get with this type of hosting. Activating the protection will involve just several easy steps inside the Hepsia Control Panel, thus even in case you haven't employed this type of function before, you will not have any kind of problems. Through a very easy to work with interface, you will just have to type in the information of the mail server which will be authorized to send out messages from your email addresses - its hostname (mail.server.com) and IP address (IPv4 or IPv6). As soon as the recently created record propagates, nobody will be able to counterfeit any e-mail for that particular domain and send out messages from a server different from the one you have entered. This does not necessarily have to be our mail server, still when we manage your email messages, you will be able to activate one more level of protection by selecting an option that email messages can be send out from addresses @your-domain.com only if the domain uses our MX records. Our technical support staff will be able to assist you 24/7 in case you have any questions regarding this service.
