An Operating System is the basic software which manages a computer. It controls how your hardware behaves, the communication with peripherals like a monitor, a printer or a keyboard, the allocation of memory between your applications, and the prioritization of apps in case several run simultaneously. Each program that's installed on a desktop or a laptop works by sending requests to the OS for different services via an application program interface (API). The communication with the OS can be performed through a Graphical User Interface (GUI) or a command line. In the Internet hosting world, the OS is what commands a server and all of the software installed on it, which includes not only website scripts, but, in addition every other application for instance a VOIP or a game server. If there're virtual machines created, they use a guest OS which runs on the server host OS.
Multiple OS in VPS Servers
We offer you as many as three different Linux distributions for the Operating System of our VPS servers - Debian, CentOS and Ubuntu. These are among the safest and the most reliable OSs available on the market and we provide all three instead of only 1 as we realize that you might want to install some software which has specific requirements for the Operating System it will run on. The latter is due to the fact that each of the three Operating Systems has a vast support community behind it and there are different software programs you can install on the hosting server. Your OS selection will also determine what hosting Control Panel can be installed on the VPS if you would like to use one and because of this we offer multiple Control Panels too. In case you decide that you need some other OS, our tech support team can quickly wipe the existing one and set up the one that you would like. We also offer an optional service to have the OS on your VPS updated weekly.
Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers
In case you decide to purchase one of our dedicated servers, you will find three Operating Systems on the registration page because we want to give you a larger choice for the system environment on your server as different applications could have certain requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian come with different modules developed by their large support communities, so you can select any of these OSs and enjoy a reliable and safe hosting service. Depending on your choice, you'll also have different Control Panels to choose from. Needless to say, we can always replace the Operating System if the one you've selected initially doesn't meet the requirements of the software that you want to run. We can also update the OS regularly to keep it as secure as possible with our Managed Services upgrade package.
